Man accused of trying to steal Wal-Mart TV
A West Columbia man accused of trying to steal a TV from Wal-Mart was arrested by West Columbia police.
George M. Murphy, 33, is charged with strong arm robbery, Police Chief Dennis K. Tyndall said. He is at the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bail hearing.
Tyndall said Murphy grabbed a 26-inch high-definition TV and ran out a fire door at the back of the store. He put the TV in his pickup parked outside but discovered he was blocked in by an employee operating a forklift, police say.
Murphy fled but later was caught near Huntington Drive, police say.
