GALLERIES & GARDENS: Noon-1 p.m. Thursday at the Robert Mills House, 1616 Blanding St. “From Landrum to Leeds: Common Ceramics in 19th-Century Columbia,” tour explores the various dining, cooking and storage wares drawn from Historic Columbia’s growing collection of locally made and imported ceramics. Highlights will include examples from the Landrum-Stork pottery, formerly located in what is today Forest Acres, and a variety of imported English ceramics. After the tour, you may picnic in the Hampton-Preston gardens. Tickets are $5; students, $3; HC members, free. “THE 39 STEPS”: 8 p.m. Thursday at the Sumter Little Theatre, 14 Mood Ave., Sumter. Written by Patrick Barlow and John Buchan, the adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic movie will test the skills of four actors who portray a myriad of characters. WOMEN’S PERSONAL SAFETY CLASS: 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Training Center, 541 Gibson Road, Lexington. Sgt. Dianne Paavel, who serves as a crime prevention officer, will show participants how they can enhance their personal safety at home and at work and how to protect themselves when approached by strangers. Wear casual clothes and comfortable shoes. Free, class is limited to 20 women and girls age 16 and older (must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian).
