Let’s be careful out there

LEXINGTON COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY DAY – CHAPIN: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Crooked Creek Park, 1098 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin. Community first responders and law enforcement will bring displays and talk to children about safer communities. But it’s not all serious, from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., there’s Mud Mania! A Day of Not So Clean Fun for ages 6-13. The free event will feature the Mud Mania Obstacle Course for ages 6-13; the Mini Mud Obstacle Course for age 5 and younger and children with disabilities age 13 and younger; a giant sand castle area, concessions and T-shirts available for sale. Registration starts at 10 a.m. Participants must be present to register, a signed waiver must be completed by a parent or legal guardian for each child attending the event. Shoes and shirts are required. Wear old clothing and tennis shoes with laces or Velcro closures (no bare feet, flip-flops or slip-on shoes allowed). (803) 345-6181; http://icrc.net


We’ll need a really high tide

BLYTHEWOOD BEACH BASH: Saturday at the Doko Meadows Amphitheater, 100 Alvina Haygood Circle, Blythewood. DJ Gene Lee kicks off the event at 5 p.m., followed by The Sensations onstage at 6 p.m. Admission is $20 per car. Sponsored by Bravo Blythewood, proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Note the deadline

GUIDED 2-MILE HIKE: 10 a.m. Saturday at Sesquicentennial State Park, 9564 Two Notch Road. Participants must be able to walk 2 miles at a moderate pace. Free with park admission of $2; S.C. residents age 65 and older, or disabled and members of the S.C. National Guard, $1.25; age 15 and younger, free (must be accompanied by an adult). Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Registration deadline is Wednesday. Meet at the park office, dress appropriately for the outdoors and bring water.
