COLUMBIA MUSEUM OF ART: “Animal Instinct: Paintings by Shelley Reed” and “Cheer for the Home Team! Animal Mascots in the Collection” Friday through Sept. 14 at 1515 Main St. “Animal Instinct” adds a contemporary twist to the Old Master tradition of painting, and “Cheer for the Home Team” explores the role of animals who serve as college mascots. Both exhibitions are family friendly. Museum hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and noon-5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military, $5 for students, and free for museum members and children age 5 and younger. (803) 799-2810; http://columbiamuseum.org
