BUTTERFLY IDENTIFICATION TRAINING: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Congaree National Park, 100 National Park Road. Get ready to identify and count butterflies for the North American Butterfly Association’s annual butterfly count 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. June 21. The identification session will involve a short introduction to butterflies in Congaree and basic identification skills followed by a short hike to practice new skills. Free; advance registration required for both programs, all ages and experience levels welcome. Participants should wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Sun protection, bug spray, water, snacks and a sack lunch (June 21) are recommended. Bring binoculars if you have them. Register by calling (803) 776-4396.
Ride for Honor Flight
MOTORCYCLE BENEFIT RIDE: Noon-4 p.m. Saturday at S&S Road Consultants, 930 Chapin Road, Chapin. Route will cover areas around Lake Murray with stops at four businesses. Sixth annual event will feature live music by Shodown, silent and live auctions and free barbecue dinner. $25 per rider: $15 per passenger. Sponsored by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, proceeds will benefit Honor Flight South Carolina, which provides airline and ground transportation for WWII and Korean War veterans to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C.
