It’s Marionette Monday at the Columbia Marionette Theatre.
In addition to their Saturday performances, the marionette theater offers shows at 10 a.m. on the third Monday of each month.
Showing this summer is “Puss in Boots,” the story of clever cat who uses trickery and deceit to gain wealth, renown and romance for his poor master. Performances are Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., through August 30, as well as 10 a.m. on June 16, July 21 and August 18.
For the marionette theater novice, all the puppets and costumes are hand-made by the board members and employees of the Columbia Marionette Theatre.
The theater staff also records the voices of the characters and any music on CD to be played while the puppeteers make the puppets come to life onstage.
Shows last about 45 minutes and are appropriate for all ages.
Tickets are $5 for adults and children ages 2 and older, and are available online ( cmtpuppet.org) or at the door. All tickets are general admission, and seating is on a first-come basis. The theater asks that adults sit at the back or along the sides of the theater to not obstruct the view of children in the audience.
