How to float your boat
ABOUT BOATING SAFELY: Boating safety course, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Flotilla Island, 2390 Johnson Marina Road, Chapin. Certified by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and taught by U.S. Coast Guard instructors, the course is designed for boaters of all ages and experience. In South Carolina, boaters younger than 16 are required by law to pass an approved boater education course before operating, without supervision, a personal watercraft or a boat powered by a motor with 15 hp or more. Fee is $30; class size is limited to 24 students; students younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult enrolled in the course. Registration deadline is Thursday. Successful graduates will be awarded the S.C. Boater Education Card; many insurance companies offer discounts to graduates of the boating education course.
