Give it up for the Famously Hot Blood Drive

We don’t think much about our blood…until someone asks us to part with it. But for lots of people, parting with blood isn’t a choice. For whatever reason – a surgical emergency, perhaps, or a horrible wound – they’ve lost more than their bodies can produce. So they need someone else’s.
You don’t get many chances in this world to save a stranger’s life. Giving blood changes that. “Every pint you give can save three lives,” says Krystal Overmyer, external communications manager, biomedical field marketing and communications for the American Red Cross.
Here are four more reasons to be a hero:• During the summer, blood supplies can run low.
• You’ll feel really good about yourself. Trust us on this one.
• You get a free mini-physical. Before taking your blood, technicians will check your blood pressure and heart rate. They’ll test your blood, too, to make sure you have enough of the good things and none of the bad things.
• Free snacks. To ramp up blood sugar and keep the woozies at bay, blood angels get their pick of cookies, candy and other goodies, all of which you can eat without guilt since you just gave blood. You’ll get a T-shirt, too!
Ready to sign up? You don’t have to! Just head to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on Friday, June 20, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. and look for the signs directing you to the Famously Hot Blood Drive. The Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center is at 1101 Lincoln St. For more information, visit redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code famouslyhot.
