E-WASTE RECYCLING: 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Chapin Baptist Church, 950 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin. Open to Lexington and Richland county residents, the event is sponsored by Keep the Midlands Beautiful, Pratt Recycling and YP Cares. Electronics accepted include computers (laptops, monitors, CPUs, keyboards, printers, scanners), TVs, copiers, VCR and DVD players, fax machines, telephone systems, cell phones, household electronics (stereos, radios, PDAs and electronic game systems). No refrigeration units or appliances that contain freon. Gently worn shoes will be collected for distribution to microenterprise partners through Funds2Orgs and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start, maintain and grow a business opportunity to feed, clothe and house their families. When dinosaurs roamed the earth
“DINOSAURS: A BITE OUT OF TIME”: Opening Saturday at the State Museum, 301 Gervais St. Exhibit will feature robotic dinosaurs, ranging in size from half-scale to life size, hands-on activities including a controllable duck bill dinosaur, dinosaur dig box and dinosaur puppet booths for kids. $15; ages 62 and older, $13; ages 3-12, $11 (includes regular museum admission). A course for caregivers
DEMENTIA DIALOGUES: 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 26-July 10 at the Lourie Center, 1650 Park Circle (Maxcy Gregg Park). Free five-part course is designed to educate individuals who care for those who exhibit signs and symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s or related dementias. Ryan Simmons, MHA, CSA, will lead the course; a certificate of completion will be presented for each of the five sessions and a Dementia Specialist Certificate at the completion of all five sessions.
