‘Follies’ as a fundraiser

“FOLLIES”: 8 p.m. Friday at Town Theatre, 1012 Sumter St. Staged concert version of hits from the award-winning Stephen Sondheim musical of the same name presented in a casual atmosphere. The Town Theatre fundraiser features more than 30 of the Midlands’ finest and favorite performers. $10, general admission; call (803) 799-2510 to reserve tickets.


So when does school start?

BACK-TO-SCHOOL POOL PARTY: 7-10 p.m. Friday at Maxcy Gregg Pool, 1655 Park Circle. An evening of games, food, giveaways, contests and live entertainment for ages 13-17. Oh, my stars!

STATE MUSEUM: Grand opening of the planetarium, observatory and 4-D theater, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 16 at 301 Gervais St. Planetarium shows, 4-D movies, live music. telescope gallery tours and the opening of a new art exhibition, “Building a Universe.” The first 100 people in line will receive free general admission and other free tickets and discounts for a year. http://scmuseum.org
