SHELTIE FUN DAY: 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Red Bud Shelter at Saluda Shoals Park, 5605 Bush River Road. Giveaways and drawings, concession stand and grill, dog Howl-o-ween costume contest, rescue dogs available for adoption, silent auction and raffle. All proceeds go toward medical care for dogs at S.C. Sheltie Rescue. Entry is free if you mention you’re attending Sheltie Fun Day. All well-behaved, friendly dogs are welcome but MUST be on a leash. Just a little warm-up
S.C. TOUR DE CURE TRAINING RIDE: 9 a.m. Saturday at either Outspokin’ Bicycles, 3223 Devine St., or the Cycle Center, 1001 Harden St. Walk-up registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The 25-mile route done in conjunction with the Jam Room Music Festival will be clearly marked and SAG support will be available along the way. Free, but you may purchase a Training Ride T-shirt for $10 (proceeds benefit the American Diabetes Association). The Historic Columbia Family Ride starts at 11 a.m. (walk-up registration begins at 10:15). This ride loops through the Bull Street campus, a Reconstruction-era home associated with Columbia’s African-American heritage, Columbia’s antebellum homes and USC’s Horseshoe. Both rides are free. COLUMBIA DESIGN LEAGUE: “The Democratization of Design,” 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Columbia Museum of Art, 1515 Main St. Season opener will feature live demonstrations of 3-D printing technology and a presentation panel discussion the impact of 3-D printing in areas ranging from medical innovations to home life.
