Smoky barbecue, frosty draft beer and rollicking music will be on the menu Thursday, Nov. 6, at an annual fundraiser for Family Shelter.
Blues, Brews and BBQ will be held from 6-9 p.m. at Doc’s BBQ and Southern Buffet.
“Doc’s is usually only open for lunch, so it’s a great chance for folks who can’t get there for lunch to enjoy their acclaimed BBQ,” said Mary Pat Baldauf, vice chairperson of Family Shelter and co-chair of the event.
River Rat Brewery will provide local craft beer, and The Blue Iguanas will play bluegrass music throughout the night.
Never miss a local story.
Rounding out the festivities will be a silent auction featuring two stocked YETI coolers, a Zikes scooter, a Bose Wave Sound Touch Music System, Disney Hopper passes and a Carolina Stadium “Behind the Scenes” tour.
“Blues, Brews and BBQ is an annual event for Family Shelter, and each year it gets bigger and better,” Baldauf said.
Proceeds from the event will directly fund Family Shelter’s daily expenses of food, shelter and program services offered to homeless families. The agency is the only emergency shelter in the Midlands that serves families and allows them to stay together as they work towards self-sufficiency. Agency officials say that the number of homeless families in the Midlands has increased by 30 percent over the past four years.
Blues, Brews and BBQ is a 21-and-older event. Tickets are $50 and available at the door. The price includes a full BBQ dinner with sides, beer and wine. Doc’s Barbeque and Southern Buffet is located at 1601 Shop Road in Columbia.
