Riding on the train with Santa at the S.C. Railroad Museum in Winnsboro has become a Midlands tradition, especially for families with train-crazy little ones.
If you haven’t booked a seat on one of the trips, you need to act fast. The cars are filling up fast. In fact, the Twilight Santa Express at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and 13 already has sold out, but there are seats available for trips earlier on both of those days.
Tickets are $9 for ages 3-12 and $12 for ages 13-up. If you want to ride in the first-class car, the tickets are $20 for all ages. Go online to scrm.org to order tickets or for more information.
What you get for the ticket is a low-speed, one-hour trip on a historic train through a short, interesting stretch of Fairfield County. Santa wanders through the train cars, taking time to talk to – and pose for pictures with – every child. He’ll also accept letters with gift suggestions.
Never miss a local story.
You also can take your time before or after the train ride to check out the other historic engines and train cars on the museum property as well as the exhibits in the museum building.
The Santa trains depart at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. on Dec. 6 and Dec. 13. The museum is located along Industrial Park Road, a quick hop off either US 321 or SC 34 south of Winnsboro.
The Santa trains end Dec. 13 because Santa has to hurry back to the North Pole to get ready for the big night.
