Florence native and Wofford College graduate Ben Ingram was revealed as the “Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions winner Friday, the day the tournament’s final episode aired.
The 2005 Wofford graduate was trailing throughout most of the match. He was in third place going into Final Jeopardy! but after each contestant failed to provide the correct answer about Shakespearean geography, Ingram's two-day winnings of $27,999 surpassed his opponents.
Ingram, 32, viewed his victory on the show alongside about 40 family members, friends and Wofford students in the college's Campus Life Center. The crowd gathered there to meet Ingram and watch him compete.
The crowd erupted with applause at the conclusion of the match when Ingram began giving high-fives to those around him.
“It started three years ago right here in Spartanburg when I took the test for the first time,” Ingram said. “I'm just grateful for everybody's support. It’s been a long ride.”
Ingram, a native of Florence, is an IT consultant in Charlotte. He had one of the longest winning streaks, eight games, in “Jeopardy!” history last summer.
