The Columbia dentists competing in "The Amazing Race" will be in the finale, airing Friday, Dec. 19, on WLTX-19.
Misti and Jim Raman came in third in the latest leg of the TV reality competition, which continued in the Phillippines' capital of Manila.
This leg was grueling. First, the teams had find their way to a park. In this sprawling city, that's no easy task.
The Ramsns' sure-footedness on which direction to head turned into wrongheadedness. Another team, the Sweet Scientists, following in their footsteps also had to backtrack.
Never miss a local story.
So, back on the right track, the teams had race pad yaks (bicycles with a sidecar) around some busy streets, and make good enough time to hit the next challenge.
Manila is hotter and muggier than anywhere in South Carolina, but the Ramans made it in time, glistening more than usual.
Next, all the teams had to deliver coconut shells and traditional Filipino brooms to three different vendors in a crowded Divorsia Market. The grueling task of carry 30 pounds of coconut shells, finding out your didn't read directions, and setting out again almost derailed the Ramans.
But Jim borrowed a cart from a vendor, which made his task end smoother than it started.
"The Amazing Race" twist this week: All four teams will compete in the finale for the $1 million prize. But host Phil Keoghan will have the power to eliminate one team during the last leg, which takes them back to the United States to the Port of Los Angeles.
The Ramans' five first-place finishes -- which got them fab trips and other prizes -- won't matter now. They need one more first-place finish to win it all.
The finale airs at 8 p.m.
