Today has gone to the dogs – literally.
Thursday, Aug. 10 is National Spoil Your Dog Day. And, here at Go Columbia, we’ve rounded up a few of the places around around town that will show your pampered pooch as much love as you already do.
Pelican’s SnoBalls: Offers a “pup cup” made of peanut butter-flavored shaved ice and topped with a dog biscuit. 1900 Rosewood Drive, (919) 614-2080, with other locations in Northeast, Ballentine, Lexington, West Columbia and Elgin; www.pelicanssnoballs.com
World of Beer: During “yappy hour,” the restaurant encourages people to bring their dogs – and as a treat, you get 25 percent off Tito’s vodka and Lagunitas beer. Dishes of water are provided for the dogs, as well as treats, if available. 902 Gervais St. (803) 509-6020, worldofbeer.com/Locations/TheVista
Never miss a local story.
Jake’s: Probably the most well known “yappy hour” in town, this is the place to get together with other dog enthusiasts. The closed-off back deck becomes a puppy playground with dogs running around off leash. Treats and baby pools filled with water and ice are summer staples. 4-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2112 Devine St. (803) 708-4788, jakesofcolumbia.com
Scoopy Doo: Located in the heart of Five Points, this gelato shop was made for humans, but dogs have been known to be seen wolfing down a gelato … or two. The peanut butter sorbet is a hit with the four-legged customers – go figure. 725 Saluda Ave. (803) 765-6999, www.facebook.com/Scoopy-Doo-Gelato-Shop
Craft and Draft: Columbia’s premier beer store and growler shop is not only great for humans, but it also is dog-friendly and provides dishes of water so you don’t have to drink alone. 2706 Devine St. (803) 764-2575, www.craftanddraftbeer.com
