The South Carolina State Fair in Columbia is set to open Oct. 14 as planned, organizers announced Tuesday.
Preparations are underway for the 146th fair, which runs through Oct. 25 at Rosewood Drive and George Rogers Boulevard.
State Fair manager Gary Goodman said the fair asked carnival operators and other fair vendors to delay their arrival to the city by a couple of days to allow for initial restoration and cleanup to proceed smoothly.
“We are on schedule to open next Wednesday at noon and that is our full intention,” he said.
Never miss a local story.
Additionally, the fair will donate all net proceeds from this year’s $5 parking fee to area flood relief efforts.
“We felt like this was something the community needed and provides a chance for everyone to contribute,” Goodman said.
