Calhoun County linebacker commits to USC
Phil KornblutUSC picked up its most recent football commitment Thursday from a prospect who lives just down the road from campus.
The Gamecocks landed linebacker Brandon Golson (6-2 210) of Calhoun County for the 2010 class.
Golson was offered by the Gamecocks during a camp workout Thursday and he committed before leaving.
"I was pretty excited," Golson said. "It's close to home and I like them. I couldn't believe they offered me."
Golson could play outside linebacker of safety for the Gamecocks. Last season was his first year of football, but it was cut short after he was involved in a car accident after the sixth game of the season. Golson suffered broken bones in his fingers and required surgery.
Up to that point he had registered 78 tackles and 18 sacks.
Golson is USC's fifth commitment for the 2010 class.
