Berkeley point guard commits to USC

Point guard Bruce Ellington (5-9) of Berkeley announced a commitment to USC following his football game Friday night.

Ellington had his in-home visit with Gamecocks head coach Darrin Horn Wednesday but wanted to wait until after his game Friday night to announce the pledge.

"South Carolina is on the verge of doing some special things," Ellington wrote in a release distributed after the football game in which he scored five touchdowns. "I'm excited to be a Gamecock."

Ellington had a big summer and shot up the charts nationally to where he is ranked as high as fifth nationally among point guards.

"He had a phenominal summer," said his AAU coach Antoine Saunders. "He felt very comfortable with Horn. He likes football, but basketball is his first love."

Ellington also considered offers from Clemson, Southern Cal, Auburn, Miami and others. He also held football offers from USC, Clemson and others.

Ellington is the third commitment for the Gamecocks' 2010 basketball class.
