Ex-USC announcer joins UGA

Former USC radio announcer Charlie McAlexander will become an assistant to the dean at the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.

McAlexander, who did Gamecocks play-by-play from 1995-2003, will help develop a sports journalism emphasis, the Athens paper reported.

"Charlie Mac" will begin work at Georgia on July 1.

He called play by play for the past three seasons at Middle Tennessee State University. Before working at South Carolina, he called Kentucky TV games from 1992-95, did play-by-play for Vanderbilt from 1978-1992 and at Ole Miss from 1972-78.
