USC women's soccer team ranked fifth

CommentsThe USC women's soccer team earned the No. 5 ranking from National Soccer Coaches Association, Soccer America and Soccer Times in polls released Tuesday.
Also, senior defender Blakely Mattern was named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week after leading the Gamecocks to two shutout victories and scoring two goals Sunday against Alabama.
USC (13-0-1, 4-01 SEC) travels to No. 23 Georgia (11-2-1, 4-2) for a 7 p.m. Friday contest.

Assistant coach is leaving Gamecocks
USC assistant track and field coach Jackie Madison will resign, effective Friday, and move to Eugene, Ore., where her fiance, Robert Johnson, is an assistant coach for the Oregon track team.
Madison served two years as the Gamecocks' recruiting coordinator and assistant sprints coach. She was an All-American hurdler at USC from 1998-2001.
