Ahead of rain, USC sits 12th
At 1-over 143, Clemson’s Stanley, USC Silvers are five shots out of lead
From Staff and Wire ReportsTOLEDO, Ohio — South Carolina is in 12th place among teams that have completed their second round at the NCAA men’s golf championships. Play was cut short Wednesday due to inclement weather at Inverness Golf Club.
USC shot a team score of 286 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 591. The Gamecocks are 23 strokes behind leader Oklahoma State.
Mark Silvers II remains USC’s top individual golfer. He improved on Tuesday’s 74 with a 2-under 69 for a +1 total of 143, and is tied for 19th place.
Also tied at 19 is Clemson junior All-American Kyle Stanley, who fired an even par 71 to beat his Tuesday round by one stroke.
Play was halted for four and a half hours in the middle of Wednesday’s round. The forecast for today’s final round calls for a 30 percent chance of rain.
