Gamecocks add 2 offensive linemen

USC added 640 pounds of offensive linemen to its program over the weekend with the commitments of Georgia Military JC teammates Steven Singleton (6-3 300) and Kevious Watkins (6-5 340).

Singleton was heavily recruited by USC out of Buford, GA in 2006 but signed with LSU. He spent a year in Baton Rouge, a year at home and a year at GMC. Now, he thinks he's headed to the right place.

"I had a a whole lot of mixed feelings when I went to LSU because I knew USC wanted me," Singleton said. "I went to LSU for the wrong reason. I went for a coach."

Singleton took an official visit to USC in 2006 and he took another this past weekend.

"The facilities are a whole lot better now," he said. "Coach Spurrier has made a lot of changes. He's getting a new offensive line coach. It's a better opportunity for me there now."

Singleton plays guard and is hoping he'll have three years to play with the Gamecocks. He will finish up at GMC in May. Singleton said he also had offers from Ole Miss and Georgia Southern.

Watkins was named first-team junior college All-American and can play tackle or guard. He said his visit over the weekend convinced him to join the Gamecocks.

"When I got up there and met a couple of the players, it seemed like we vibed with them right off the jump," Watkins said. "I just felt like I was at home."

Watkins said he also had offers from UAB, Troy, Minnesota, Hampton and Kent State. He also drew interest from Michigan State.
