USC IS CLOSE ON A commitment from offensive lineman Trammell Williams (6-foot-2, 260 pounds) of Jacksonville, Fla. Williams also has offers from Vanderbilt, Southern Miss and Indiana.
“I’m debating back and forth when I want to commit,” Williams said. “South Carolina has the upper hand in my recruiting. I’m pretty sure I’m with South Carolina right now. There’s a possibility I will commit when I visit the end of June or in early July.”
Offensive lineman Eric Mack (6-4, 310) of Calhoun County and offensive lineman A.J. Cann (6-3, 265) of Bamberg-Ehrhardt were at USC’s camp Friday and worked closely with line coach Eric Wolford.
Mack also has been to Georgia Tech and Georgia for camps and will go to Alabama on June 20. He does not have a favorite.
Cann also camped at Clemson last week, but he has USC and North Carolina at the top of his list. He also has Clemson, Georgia Tech and N.C. State in his top five.
Offensive lineman Cody Gibson (6-6, 260) of Tallahassee, Fla., has offers from USC, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois, Marshall, Iowa State, Tulane, Southern Miss and East Carolina. He plans to visit USC the first week in August. He also plans to visit East Carolina. He does not claim a favorite.
USC and Clemson made the cut with linebacker Kendall Moore (6-3, 231) of Raleigh, who trimmed his list to seven last week. The others on the list are Notre Dame, Florida State, N.C. State, Duke and Maryland. He will visit Notre Dame on June 26 and plans to visit USC this summer. He also will camp at Tennessee.
Manning defensive back John Fulton (6-0, 180) spent three days at Alabama last week and the Crimson Tide remain his favorite ahead of Florida, USC, Georgia and Tennessee. Fulton also went to Georgia for a camp last week and he plans to camp at Florida, Tennessee, Maryland and N.C. State.
USC offered offensive lineman Logan Stewart (6-5, 278) of Boiling Springs last week after seeing him in camp.
Stewart also has offers from Appalachian State, Air Force, East Carolina and Western Carolina. He plans to camp at Vandy this weekend, and he might attend camps at N.C. State and Wake Forest. USC also has offered.
Clemson has offered offensive lineman David Beasley (6-4, 316) of Columbus, Ga. Some of his other offers are USC, Louisville, Ole Miss, Arkansas, UCLA, Miami and Southern Miss. Beasley said he’d like to play in the SEC and wants to visit USC this summer.
The Tigers and USC also are showing interest in offensive lineman Takoby Cofield (6-6, 288) of Tarboro, N.C. They have not offered. He has offers from Duke, East Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. He also is looking for offers from Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia when he goes to their camps.
Coefield said USC is showing interest in his teammates, defensive back Markell Pettaway (5-8, 160) and defensive back Lakevious Battle (5-11, 180).
Offensive lineman Duvan Milsap (6-5, 300) of Buford, Ga., now has offers from USC, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Oklahoma State. Milsap said he’s wide open with his schools right now.
Clemson and USC appear to be in position to make the cut when wide receiver Markeith Ambles (6-3, 185) of McDonough, Ga., trims his list, according to his father. Ambles was in California last week for a combine in San Francisco and a camp at Cal. Ambles father said they plan to cut the list to 10 or 12.
Defensive lineman Jeffrey Whitaker (6-3, 313) of Warner Robins, Ga., has 17 offers including Clemson and USC. Clemson, he says, is showing more interest than USC. Some of his other offers are Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and Cal. He does not have favorites.
Quarterback Gabriel Henderson (6-0, 189) of Raleigh is hearing from Clemson and USC. He has offers from Kent State, Buffalo, Western Carolina and North Carolina A&T.
Rock Hill defensive back Xavier McFadden (5-11, 170) attended a Clemson camp last week, and the Tigers are considering an offer. USC also has shown interest in McFadden and checked him out in spring practice. He plans to camp at USC and Kentucky later this month.
Running back Darion Hall (6-0, 205) of Naples, Fla., committed last week to Miami. Clemson was among the other schools on his offer list.
Crestwood defensive lineman Travis McConico (6-2, 270) has been offered by East Carolina. He has been to Clemson for a one-day camp and plans to get to USC and Maryland.
Junior defensive lineman Zack Inge (6-2, 265) of Charlotte is drawing strong early interest from Clemson. He’s the son of former Tigers offensive lineman Mark Inge. Inge is home schooled and plays for a team in a private school league.
USC has verbally offered defensive back Shaq Roland (6-1, 175) of Lexington, who is entering the 10th grade. Roland was all region last season and also is a basketball prospect.
Coastal Carolina picked up a transfer from Michigan State in tight end David Duran (6-6, 245). Transferring to Furman from UCLA was quarterback Chris Forcier.
Basketball news. Clemson and Auburn made offers to R.J. Slawson of Fort Dorchester last week. He also has offers from USC, College of Charleston, S.C. State and UNC Greensboro.
Slawson visited the College of Charleston last Wednesday with his parents. He was at USC’s team camp Friday and is scheduled to visit Clemson on Monday. He also plans to visit Auburn, Virginia Tech and Alabama.
Brandon Mobley of Savannah also was scheduled to be at Tennessee on Saturday for an individual camp and at USC on Sunday for a team camp. His top five are USC, Cincinnati, Indiana, Tennessee and Miami.
Baseball news. Clemson now has four commitments for 2010 after the addition of right-hander Matt Campbell (6-1, 175) of Alpharetta, Ga. He joins right-hander Dale Innes of Enca, N.C., outfielder Joe Costigan of Naples, Fla., and left-hander Daniel Palka of Greer.
The Tigers also have a commitment from right-hander Daniel Gossett (6-0, 170) of Byrnes for the 2011 class.
USC added a commitment for 2010 from infielder Wil Leathers (5-8, 160) of Riverside, and the Gamecocks have a commitment for 2012 from outfielder Andrew Cox (6-0, 175) of Belton Honea-Path.
Left-hander Jimmy Revan of Spartanburg Methodist, who committed to USC for the 2010 class, will be able to enroll this fall.
Right-hander Patrick Mincey (6-2 160), also of Spartanburg Methodist, plans to enroll at USC this fall.
