Three players to join Gamecocks programs

South Carolina will gain three players today for its men's and women's golf teams. USC men's coach Bill McDonald can thank an old friend for that.

Rickey Sullivan, director of instruction at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, near Mount Pleasant, said S.C. junior champions Caulder Moore (boys) and Katie Rose Higgins (girls), both of Porter-Gaud School, will sign letters of intent with the Gamecocks.

Also joining the USC men's team will be Sullivan student and American Junior Golf Association All-American Logan Harrell of Huntersville, N.C.

"Bill (McDonald) and I have been friends since we were kids, when he played for the state team from Georgia and I played for South Carolina," said Sullivan, who joined Bulls Bay in 2001 and has produced 40 Division I players since 1998.

"This way, I can keep (his three students) within an hour and a half (at USC), so it made sense," Sullivan said.

Moore won the 2009 S.C. Golf Association Junior Championship and the S.C. Golf Association's The Blade Junior in Greenville.

Harrell, who played in the U.S. Junior, has risen from 250th in the nation among juniors to the top 10 in less than three years, Sullivan said.

Higgins, who will sign to play for USC coach Kalen Anderson, won five tournaments this summer, including the Women's SCGA Junior, and played in the U.S. Girls Junior.

She is the daughter of The Citadel football coach Kevin Higgins. Her brother, Tim, was a walk-on wide receiver at Florida.

Also signing will be a pair of players from Blythewood High. Parker Allen will sign with College of Charleston, and Damon Postal will join Winthrop.
