Former South Carolina star Brian Winters, once traded for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar during his NBA career, was among eight people named to the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
The South Carolina Letterman’s Association announced this year’s inductees list on Tuesday. The inductees will be honored at a dinner on Sept. 18.
Winters played for the Gamecocks from 1972-74, finishing with 1,079 points and helping the team to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.
Others named to the hall included soccer player Josh Wolff, football players Henry Martin, Clarence Williams and Collin Mackie, golfer Carl Paulson, track and field athlete Brad Snyder and longtime athletics department administrative aide Emily White.
This year’s inductees will be honored at a dinner on Thursday, Sept. 18 at Seawell’s in Columbia.
Martin (1942, 1947-49) was the first South Carolina basketball player to score 1,000 career points.
The late Williams (1975-76) rushed for 2,311 career yards, including eight 100-yard games.
Mackie (1987-90), from Irmo High School, remains the leading scorer in program history with 330 points.
Paulson earned SEC player of the year and All-America honors in 1993 in golf.
Wolff (1995-97) scored 21 goals and recorded eight assists in 43 career games. He was named to the Soccer American all-america freshman team in 1995.
Snyder (1996-99) was a seven-time SEC champion and a three-time NCAA champion as a shot putter and discus thrower. He earned eight all-america honors and was a three-time Olympian for Canada.
White has assisted head football coaches, baseball coaches and athletics directors at South Carolina since 1967. She is considered the “first lady” of USC Athletics.
