Game Space: How do you watch USC?

Space is important when it comes to where and how you watch the Gamecocks.

Parking spaces, gameday condos, stadium seats — some people pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for theirs. Others have kept theirs for 50+ years. Still others rent space on a barstool.

The outcome is the same: Space brings friends, camaraderie, food, fans and football.

Your experience depends on your point of view.

This season, The State will run a series of articles about your game space. Today, we look at some overall facts about spaces and the shared experiences they bring.

THE SEATS

There are many viewpoints — 80,250 to be exact — from which to watch a game at Williams-Brice Stadium — excluding the view from the field or those in standing room.

Most seats are about 20 inches across.

THE FAIRGROUNDS PARKING SPOTS

There are 8,500 parking spots at the State Fairgrounds. Each is the size of a normal car, plus an additional eight feet for tailgating.

THE FIELD

Of course, the football team’s space is the 100-yard playing field. It’s also the game space for the 290 people in USC’s marching band.

Tonight, the Mighty Sound of the Southeast will cover the field while playing music from 007 (that’s Bond, James Bond) duringhalftime.

AND WHEN NOT ON THE FIELD ...

The band’s space will be in the corner of the north end zone, where they’ll be playing the fight song. (Over and over, fans hope.)

Most people won’t know the words. So if you want to impress the fans around your space, here are the lyrics and your chance to shine:

Hey, let’s give a cheer,

Carolina is here,

The Fighting Gamecocks lead the way.

Who gives a care, if the going gets tough,

And when it is rough,

That’s when the ’Cocks get going.

Hail to our colors of garnet and black.

In Carolina pride have we.

So, go Gamecocks go

FIGHT!

Drive for the goal

FIGHT!

USC will win today

GO COCKS!

So, let’s give a cheer,

Carolina is here.

The Fighting Gamecocks

All the way!
