First Quarter

KEY MOMENT: Darian Stewart levels Vanderbilt tailback Gaston Miller, forcing a fumble that Stewart recovers on the Commodores’ 20. The turnover sets up South Carolina’s first score. USC ends the quarter with 55 yards of total offense.
THE MAN: Kenny McKinley hauls in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Chris Smelley on a long third and goal to put the Gamecocks up 7-0 with 6 minutes remaining.

Second Quarter
USC 10 | Vanderbilt, 3
KEY MOMENT: After driving into Vanderbilt territory, Chris Smelley throws an interception to Vanderbilt nickel back Darlron Spead at the Commodores’ 29. Spead returns the interception for 41 yards to set up a 19-yard field goal with 4:33 remaining.
THE MAN: Patrick Di Marco catches a direct snap on a fake punt and runs it three yards for a first down late in the half. Five plays later, Ryan Succop boots a 41-yard field goal .

Third Quarter

KEY MOMENT: Vanderbilt recovers a wobbly punt that hits Addison Williams. Vanderbilt ties the game 7 seconds later with a 31-yard touchdown pass. On the next Gamecocks’ drive, the Commodores block a 42-yard field goal attempt and swiftly take a 17-10 lead when Chris Nickson runs for a one-yard touchdown.
THE MAN: Jared Cook catches six passes for a career-high 93 yards in the first three quarters.

Fourth Quarter
USC 17 | Vanderbilt, 24
KEY MOMENT: A third-down pass interference call on Captain Munnerlyn extends Vanderbilt’s back-breaking drive. The Commodores score two plays later to take a 24-10 lead.
THE MAN: Freddie Brown makes a leaping, 5-yard touchdown catch in the back of the end zone for his first career touchdown reception to cut Vanderbilt’s lead in half, 24-17. The touchdown pass is Chris Smelley’s second of the game.
