DARRIN HORN’S SECOND commitment for his USC 2009 basketball class dropped over the weekend when point guard Ramon Galloway (6-foot-3, 160 pounds) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., made his pledge while on an official visit.
The commitment was reported Saturday by Rivals.com and Scout.com. Galloway also had offers from Virginia, South Florida and Central Florida. Last season he averaged 20 points, 5 assists and 7 rebounds per game.
Also making a visit to USC over the weekend was Keith Clanton of Orlando, Fla. That was his first visit, and he plans to visit South Florida in a couple of weeks.
“The visit went well,” Clanton said. “I like the coaching staff and the players are real cool. I saw them scrimmage and they would fit in with my game.”

“It was great,” he said. “I loved it. It was awesome. I didn’t make a commitment, but I definitely liked the school. But I want to take my other visits. They are all dead even.”
Linebackers Josh Dickerson (6-2, 220) and Tony Straughter (6-1, 211) of Georgia Military JC postponed their USC visits to this coming weekend. Both are strong on the Gamecocks. Clemson-bound defensive back Devonte Holloman (6-3, 210) said last week he will take other visits and has set one with Tennessee for Sept. 20. Holloman said he’s also interested in Alabama, Georgia and LSU.
“I’m really only looking at SEC schools (for other visits),” Holloman said. “Not many coaches know I’m opening it back up a little. I didn’t de-commit, I’m just trying to double check to make sure I didn’t miss.”
Byrnes wide receiver Rico Sanders (5-11, 185) said last week his top four schools are USC, Florida, Florida State and Auburn, but he hasn’t eliminated any school that has offered. He has not set any official visits and doesn’t have a leader.
USC is still in the game with linebacker Qua Huzzie (5-11, 210) of LaGrange, Ga., who committed to Kentucky earlier in the summer. He has set a visit to Kentucky for Oct. 6, and he also wants to visit USC, Auburn and Oklahoma State. Huzzie said he also is hearing from Clemson.
USC is the favorite of running back Trabis Ward (5-9, 203) of Fort Lauderdale, though the Gamecocks have not yet offered. He plans to visit in November. He has offers from Kansas, Toledo and Troy.
Linebacker Daniel Mack (6-0, 198) of Miami has a final five of Clemson, Boston College, Wake Forest, Central Florida and Liberty. Mack had planned to graduate early, but he changed his mind. He will set a visit with Clemson for January.

Baseball news. USC landed a commitment last week from one of North Carolina’s top 2010 prospects: outfielder DeSean Anderson (5-9, 180) of Jamestown.
