Steve Spurrier took a brief break last week to do some crime stopping.
USC police arrested a man for trespassing at Williams-Brice Stadium after the football coach pointed him out. According to an incident report, Spurrier noticed “a suspicious person walking around” the parking lot who was later seen by police peering into car windows.
Spurrier, who was on his way to the practice fields across the Bluff Road, pointed out the suspect to a USC policeman who was doing crosswalk detail for the Gamecocks.
The policemen approached the man, 52-year-old Kenneth Gerald Brown, who according to the report “smelled of alcohol.” Brown told the policemen he was just passing through.
A quick background check revealed that during the 2005 season Brown had received a trespass notice at Williams-Brice. He was arrested and taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Spurrier proceeded to practice.
