USC men strong in Las Vegas
At Las Vegas, the USC men won five of six singles matches in the second day of the Rebel Fall Invitational. Pedro Campos and Diego Cubas won their singles and doubles matches.

Gamecocks 11th after first round in Knoxville
At Knoxville, Tenn., the USC women’s are in 11th place at after the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Championships. The Gamecocks shot 297 (+9) on the day, but are eight shots out of second place.
Junior Benedicte Toumpsin had the most consistent round, finishing the day at even par 72.
Freshman Katie Burnett cruised through her first 16 holes at even par with a pair of birdies at holes 13 and 14, but a triple-bogey at the narrow eighth hole dropped her to 3-over, where she would finish with a 75.
Host Tennessee is the first-day leader after shooting 283 (-5) despite having two of its best players unavailable for the weekend. North Carolina is second, six shots back at 1-over with eight strokes separating second and 11th place.
SOCCER
USC strikes early against Mississippi St.
South Carolina scored two goals in the opening eight minutes to defeat Mississippi State 2-1 in SEC women's soccer action at Stone Stadium.
Sophomore Brooke Jacobs scored the deciding goal in the eighth minute after freshman Kayla Grimsley improved her consecutive match scoring streak to five games with a goal in the third minute of play.
USC moves to 9-2-3 overall, 3-1-1 in the SEC. Mississippi State is 5-9-0, 0-5-0.
