Phelps, other celebs attend game

Homecoming is when teams traditionally welcome back alumni (and schedule a beatable opponent), but Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium was more notable for visiting celebrities who did NOT attend USC:

Michael Phelps: Introduced to the crowd two minutes before halftime, the Olympian and 2008 eight-time swimming gold medalist is visiting a female friend at USC.

Paul Dietzel: USC’s coach from 1966-74 was in town as honorary captain of the Gamecocks and to promote his new book

Chris Mortensen: ESPN’s resident NFL expert and his wife, Micki, came to watch son Alex, a senior quarterback for the Razorbacks

Jim Leyland: Detroit Tiger manager accompanied his son, Pat, a visiting high school baseball prospect

Keith Jackson: Not the “whoa, Nellie” announcer, but the former Oklahoma tight end and College Football Hall of Fame member, now Arkansas radio’s color commentator.
