OL Johnnie Farms (6-3 306) of Perry, GA made an official visit to North Carolina over the weekend and committed to the Tar Heels, backing off an earlier pledge to USC.
"I told coach (Robert) Gillespie," Farms said Sunday night. "He wasn't too happy about it. He's still going to recruit me. He thinks I'm unsure about my decision, but I think I'm firm about it."
Farms is scheduled for an official visit to USC Dec. 13 but is not sure if he'll make it.
As for his weekend in Chapel Hill, Farms was impressed despite the Tar Heels' upset loss to NC State.
"It went awesome," he said. "Everything was great. The coaching staff was great. The players were great. I get a chance to get a great education. My family loved it and I loved it. They said I can come in and start."
Farms' defection reduces the Gamecocks' class for 2009 to 22.
