1. Everybody was right about Houston Nutt and Ole Miss. Everybody, that is, who thought Nutt would capitalize on previous coach Ed Orgeron's highly ranked recruiting classes. The Rebels are ranked in the AP poll for the first time since 2003, and Nutt, who this time last year was being chased out of Arkansas, is adored in Oxford. "Certainly, we believe we have one of the best coaches in the country," Mississippi athletics director Pete Boone said. "We love having him here and I think he loves being here."
2. Eric Berry would get Heisman consideration ... if his team were better. The Tennessee safety continues to have an incredible nose for the ball, notching his seventh interception of the season, and his second for a touchdown, against Vanderbilt. The sophomore also broke a 52-year-old record for SEC defensive return yards. Last year he had five picks for 222 return yards.
3. Gainesville will be a busy place for the next month. And that's just the coaches. Assistants Dan Mullen (offensive coordinator), Charlie Strong (defensive coordinator) and Dan McCarney (defensive line) have all been mentioned for head coaching jobs elsewhere. Mullen and Strong are each looking for their first top job. McCarney coached Iowa State from 1995-2006, and was the school's all-time winningest coach.
