Postcard from Tampa, day 1

They tell me there’s a beautiful bay here somewhere, but I haven’t seen it, yet. Arrived yesterday and drove straight to Iowa’s practice at the University of Tampa’s soccer stadium.
I’ll have a shorter trip to USC’s practices: The hotel is next door to Jefferson High, where I couldn’t find the marquee proclaiming the school as the “alma mater of Stephen Garcia.” But a big performance Thursday by the QB formerly known as Achilles and who knows?
The hotel also is in the same area as the Yankees’ spring training stadium and a number of gentlemen’s clubs. Probably no coincidence.
But I vow to steer clear of Mons Venus and the rest. I’m here to cover the Gamecocks, and search for water besides the hotel pool, which is lovely btw.

PS Turns out I can see the bay in the distance from my window. Need to get out more.
