Vanderbilt QB named player of the week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Vanderbilt quarterback Chris Nickson was named the Southeastern Conference player of the week.

The SEC gave defensive honors to Kentucky tackle Myron Pryor. Florida return man Brandon James won special teams honors.

Nickson, a former Pike County prep star, ran for a career-high 166 yards and passed for 91 yards in a win at Miami of Ohio. He accounted for three touchdowns.

Pryor knocked loose a fumble that Ashton Cobb returned for a touchdown and returned another fumble 72 yards for a score.

James had a 74-yard punt return in Florida's blowout of Hawaii.

Alabama's Mike Johnson was the offensive lineman of the week and teammate Terrence Cody was named the top defensive lineman. Mississippi running back Brandon Bolden was freshman of the week.
