McKinley's dad: No plans to redshirt
The father of USC receiver Kenny McKinley said the All-SEC senior has no plans to redshirt and could return for next week’s Kentucky game.
McKinley has missed the past three games since pulling his right hamstring in the first quarter against Vanderbilt. When asked about a medical redshirt for McKinley, Spurrier said Sunday it could be an option if the hamstring does not improve.
“Right now it’s killing him that he’s not playing,” Ken McKinley said Monday. “He wanted to come back for the Wofford game. He was only 70 percent and he’s out there trying to come back, and unfortunately he aggravated it.”
McKinley needs eight catches and 299 receiving yards to pass Sterling Sharpe as the Gamecocks’ all-time leader in both categories.
“He should be back within a week or two,” the elder McKinley said. “He’s hoping they can continue to keep winning and he can come back and help them win more.”
