Knee injury ends Adams' career

An injury to the right knee of senior Demetress Adams has ended her college career, USC women's basketball coach Dawn Staley announced Friday.

Adams left Thursday night’s game against Mississippi with 10:51 left in the first half. She did not return following an on-site examination in Oxford.

Further evaluation by Dr. Jeffrey Guy, medical director for the athletics department, revealed the extent of the injury would prevent Adams from returning to the court this season.

"We will miss Demetress on the court,” Staley said, “but I know she will continue to do whatever she can to help her teammates be successful the rest of the season."

Adams, from Bishopville, is the Gamecocks' second-leading scorer with 10.7 points per game. Her 7.2 rebounds per game is fifth-best in the SEC.

She leaves ranked among USC’s top five in three categories. She is ranked third with 140 career blocked shots and is ranked fourth in both career offensive (274) and defensive (462) rebounds.
