Kentucky 61, USC 47
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lakeisha Sutton scored a game-high 15 points, but South Carolina could not overcome a cold-shooting first half against Kentucky on Thursday night.
The Gamecocks (9-12, 1-7 SEC) scored 15 points in the first half and fell into a 15-point halftime deficit that was too large to overcome.
USC made four field goals in the first 20 minutes of play and finished the half shooting 14.3 percent (4-of-28).
The Gamecocks’ shooting improved early in the second half, but the Wildcats continued to pull away. After an 11-0 run midway through the half, Kentucky had a 51-27 lead with 10:16 to go.
After climbing within 20, the Gamecocks turned to a trapping defense and scored nine points in a row behind Sutton and C.J. Pace. Sutton fouled out, but USC cut the lead down to eight with 4:14 remaining before Kentucky pulled away at the free throw line.
Kentucky out-rebounded USC 49-29 and added 16 offensive rebounds.
