Dickerson receives post-graduate scholarship

USC senior guard Brionna Dickerson is the female recipient of the 2008-09 Brad Davis Southeastern Conference Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship.

Dickerson and male winner Andrew Smith of Auburn were chosen by a committee of faculty athletic representatives from SEC universities. Each will receive a $6,000 scholarship.

USC baseball player Jay Brown was honored as one of 11 male recipients of a $2,000 scholarship.

"Brionna has established a legacy of service to go with her outstanding academic and athletic performance throughout her career," USC women's basketball coach Dawn Staley said. "She is a player, teammate and leader who embodies all the fundamental principles of our basketball program."

Dickerson is a two-time SEC Community Service Team member. She has worked with Camp Sunshine for nearly a decade as a mentor for special needs adults.

The award, which recognizes student-athletes for their commitment to service, leadership, academic achievement and athletic participation, is named in memory of former associate commissioner Brad Davis.
