Solutions to lessen crime

What officials say needs to happen to lessen crime that spills out of North Columbia’s most dangerous apartment complexes and into neighborhoods

 A safety and security plan for each complex. The city would mandate measures such as fencing or security guards if needed.

 A renewed commitment to community policing by the Columbia Police Department

 Better cooperation between the Columbia Police Department and apartment managers and residents

 Security requirements for apartments that accept federal housing vouchers and money to assist in security measures

 Tighter lease requirements for tenants, regarding behavior, and monitoring by managers

 Clearing underbrush and keeping streets clean
