We've added a whopping 648 new records, more than a month's worth, of health inspections for restaurants, bars, cafeterias and other eateries in Kershaw, Lexington and Richland counties.

The inspections were carried out between Aug. 13 and Sept. 24 by Department of Health and Environmental Control inspectors.

Fifty-seven area establishments in that period earned exceptional scores between 98 and 100 on unannounced, routine inspections.

Sixty-one locations received B-level scores between 79 and 86 on their routine inspections and six earned a C with scores ranging from 51 to 75, but all those had or will have the opportunity to improve marks with follow-up inspections. The lowest follow-up score in this period was an 87, for the Monterrey Mexican Restaurant on Knox Abbot Drive in Cayce. That would require a 'B' posting, but a second follow-up raised the restaurant's score to a perfect 100. Eateries with scores of 88 or higher on routine or follow-up inspections may post an "A" in public view.
