A domestic disturbance between a boyfriend and girlfriend and the boyfriend’s sister in Lower Richland County has left two hospitalized and one with multiple gunshot wounds, officers say.
The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Crossing Creek Road, Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Curtis Wilson said.
A man living at the residence was fighting with his girlfriend when the altercation turned physical, Wilson said. The man’s sister, who also lives at the residence, became involved in a physical altercation with her brother as well.
She then pulled out a handgun, Wilson said. After the man attempted to take the gun from his sister, the sister fired it, striking her brother multiple times in his upper body, Wilson said.
Joe Bales, 42, was charged with criminal domestic violence and aggravated assault. His sister shot him in self-defense, WIlson said, and is not being charged.
Bales and his sister were taken to an area hospital. Their conditions, as well as the girlfriend’s, were unavailable late Saturday.
