Charleston chefs among James Beard award semifinalists

Finalists for the “Oscars of food” will be announced in late March in Charleston

Several Charleston chefs and restaurants are among this year’s semifinalists for the James Beard Foundation awards, the Oscars of food.

The finalists will be announced in Charleston on March 18. Awards will be given out at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City May 3 and 6.

Best new restaurant: The Ordinary, Charleston, owned by Mike Lata, who also owns FIG restaurant.

Outstanding chef: Sean Brock, McCrady’s, Charleston

Outstanding wine program: Charleston Grill at Charleston Place Hotel, Charleston

Best chef:

Southeast: Jeremiah Bacon, The Macintosh, Charleston (the owners also own Oak Table in Columbia)

Craig Deihl, Cypress, Charleston

Joshua Keeler, Two Boroughs Larders, Charleston
