UPDATE: Sunday, 5 p.m. Columbia police have scheduled a news conference at 2:30 p.m. Monday to reveal the surveillance video of the incident. Chief Randy Scott will discuss the investigation on the incident at Five Points.
EARLIER: Columbia police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with gunshots fired early Saturday morning at a police officer and a person the officer was detaining.
Shiquan Tyon Cwiklinski, 18, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
The incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. in the 2000 block of Greene Street as bars were closing, department spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Timmons said.
The department had close to 20 officers patrolling Five Points at the time and responded quickly, she said. Chief Randy Scott had assigned extra patrols to the area after “shots fired” calls during the past few weekends.
No one was injured and no property was damaged, Timmons said.
Cwiklinski was being held Saturday at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
