You won’t have to be up bright and early for this 5K. At the Sleigh Bell Trot, your nighttime run will be lit by more than three miles of holiday lights along the Saluda River.
The 5K race, kicking off at 7 p.m., is routed through the annual Holiday Lights on the River display, featuring more than 1 million lights and more than 400 animated displays. Some, like the “Dancing Dazzling Forest” and its swaying trees, are even synced with holiday music. Participants also will get the first peek at the annual light display. Holiday Lights on the River does not open to the public until Thanksgiving night, so tonight’s runners will be among the first to take in the LED glow at Saluda Shoals Park.
Runners of all ages are welcome to race, with divisions from age 8 and under to age 70 and older. Medals will be given to the top three finishers in each division. It costs $35 to register for the run, and all registrants will receive a T-shirt and a set of jingle bells. Regisration begins at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the race will go to the Saluda Shoals Foundation, which supports the park.
