STARKVILLE, Miss. — South Carolina heads home from its SEC baseball series opener with a victory.
The Gamecocks scored two in the top of the sixth inning to win 5-4 Sunday in the second game of the day.
Nick Ebert was 4-for-5 on the day. Teammate Kyle Enders was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and 2 RBIs.
MSU is 12-5 on the year, and 2-1 in SEC play. South Carolina is 11-4, 1-2.
Mississippi State won an earlier contest 10-3 in a game that was completed after a fog delay Saturday night.
In the first game Sunday, Mississippi State reliever Greg Houston picked up the win after 1.1 scoreless innings of work. He allowed one hit.
South Carolina starter Blake Cooper suffered the loss and is 1-2 on the year. Cooper allowed four runs on four hits in two innings on Saturday and struck out three while walking two batters.
In the first game of the series Saturday, Mississippi State sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored seven runs on its way to a 13-6 victory.
The Gamecocks return home to play Davidson at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carolina Stadium.
