USC cornerback C.C. Whitlock has been suspended indefinitely for academic reasons and other issues, coaches said Thursday.
Whitlock, a sophomore from Chester who played in nine games last fall, was vying for a starting position. But he has missed the last two practices and is on the bubble academically.
“Whitlock’s having trouble doing what we ask him to do,” Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier said.
Meanwhile, starting defensive tackle Ladi Ajiboye remains suspended despite being accepted into a diversion program on a marijuana charge this week.
In exchange for Ajiboye’s guilty plea on simple possession, a magistrate judge agreed to give Ajiboye a conditional discharge. If Ajiboye passes three drug tests and avoids any additional drug charges over the next six months, he will have the misdemeanor expunged from his record, according to a spokeswoman at the Dentsville magistrate's office.
Spurrier said he did not know when or if Ajiboye or Whitlock would return to the team.
