With an offer from USC basketball coach Darrin Horn last Friday, ATH Bruce Ellington (5-9 185) of Berkeley became a major prospect in two sports. The Gamecocks are the first to offer Ellington for basketball. He earlier picked up offers from USC and Clemson for football. He thinks Maryland and Kentucky are close to making football offers, while Clemson and Texas A&M are also interested in him for basketball.
A Texas A&M coach was at Berkeley last Wednesday to watch Ellington workout, one day after USC's Horn was at the school. Ellington was on his way to Clemson Friday with his AAU team when they stopped by to visit the USC basketball offices and he was offered in person by Horn.
In football, Ellington said he's being recruited primarily as a slot receiver. He also plays quarterback, cornerback and safety. Last season he rushed for 810 yards and 4 touchdowns and caught 21 passes for 422 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also returned three kickoffs for touchdowns and totaled 1778 all purpose yards.
Ellington attended USC's junior day and has taken an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech with his coach. This Thursday he plans to make a basketball visit to Clemson, and he has a football visit set with Clemson for May 6th.
He wants to play both sports in college and said he does not have a favorite.
