South Carolina will pay Florida Atlantic $800,000 to visit Williams-Brice Stadium on Sept. 19, believed to be the largest guarantee USC has ever paid out in football.
UAB received $750,000 last season to come to Columbia, and Louisiana-Lafayette got $475,000 in 2007.
Those numbers are in keeping with the trend of larger payouts BCS conference teams are having to make to smaller schools. Compared to Texas, USC got off cheaper: Florida Atlantic got $900,000 to play at the Longhorns last season.
Payouts to in-state schools remain a relative bargain. South Carolina State will get $230,000 to visit Williams-Brice this season, $5,000 less than Wofford got last season.
